Primarily correspondence of Noah A. Phelps, a New Haven, Connecticut, lawyer, sheriff, judge, U.S. collector, member of the Connecticut. legislature, and Secretary of the State. The correspondence mostly concerns a petition for divorce filed by Mrs. C.S. Phelps, his second wife. There is also a letter from his brother George Dwight Phelps complaining about his constipation and the efforts he took to relieve it, and a later missive in which he discussed Noah's marriage. Of interest are a bill for dancing instruction, 1806, and several bills for wire. There are also two summons, which may be related to court cases Phelps was hearing.
